  • Amazing how good this for a 13 year old $13 bottle of wine. Excellent.

  • Note: I use a scale on which 85 represents a very good wine.

I am not a big fan of "super-Tuscans," which I assume is the category to which this wine belongs. Aside from the fact that my preference is to drink wines that have longer historical ties to regions than Cabernet Sauvignon has to Tuscany, I have been uniformly underwhelmed by super-Tuscans. Could be simple prejudice, but I think not.

Putting this aside, this was a decent bottle. Fruit was present, tannins were also, but not excessive. Drank a little better on Day 2 than on Day 1. Decanted on Day 1. I don't think that any more time in the bottle will lead to a dramatic change, but there is no need to rush.

  • This continues to develop and drinks just as beautifully as ever. Probably at its peak now. Has softened noticeably over the past couple of years and is just so silky smooth. Perfectly balanced now, showing a little less oak and the tannins have integrated completely. So rich, polished and delicious. One of the absolute, all-time QPR champs. Out drinks Toscanas that cost three or four times as much. 92+

  • Bam_Man's November 2015 note nails this pretty well. That was why I opened my first bottle in over two years.

    Enjoy.

  • Now down to my last few bottles from a case purchased back in 2011. This is still drinking beautifully. Absolutely gorgeous on the nose. Powerful, complex aromas of leather, flowers and earth - along with just a touch of heat. Full-bodied and very rich. Its ripe, opulent plum and blackberry fruit may have faded slightly, but there is still plenty left. The front palate is initially a bit sweet, but quickly transitions to a broad, deep mid-palate that features tantalizing notes of leather, chocolate and mineral. Finishes very long, with loads of delicious fruit and slightly chewy tannins that are well-integrated. So polished, complex and delicious. Outdrinks Maremma Cabernets and blends that cost three times as much. Amazing. 93+
