  • First off, have to mention the idiotic closure of a crown cap covered with wax. Couldn't figure out why my corkscrew wasn't working until I noticed the ridges. Of course this closure is particularly annoying because unlike with a cork, where you can clean off the stray wax bits after pulling the cork up halfway, you can't really do that here. Anyway. Not surprisingly given the zero-air-entry closure, this tastes much younger than expected and is somewhat reduced. It tastes like sort of generic raspberry-or-slightly-darker natural wine, slightly stinky, fruity and a bit savory. Nothing that makes me think cab franc. Perfectly pleasant but not much more.

  • Maybe 93. Rocking.

  • This showed signs of slight leakage in the past. Upon opening it was fresh and whole. Really nice, great fruit, typical Loire Cab Franc notes. Great with dinner. Went back to it a couple hours after dinner and it started to show some dead leaves and other signs of falling apart. Not sure if it didn't last b/c of leakage or just age, but it's a pretty rocking bottle right now if you like this style of wine.

  • The first surprise on this bottle was when I tried to pierce the hard wax capsule and discovered that it had a beer bottle-cap not a cork!
The color is deeper than I expected, too. On first opening it is moderate in body with raspberry scented fruit without the expected herbal edge. There is a pronounced irony mineral edge though. I will try to add additional notes later.

  • Two years later and this has filled out well. Light on its feet, and very smooth and relaxed on the palate. Some will struggle at the non-traditional nose - it's just a different take though. Plays a bit like a pinot noir, if I'd tasted it blind. 50/5/12/14/8
