Upon opening, this was rather thin, tinny, and lacking in any Rioja typiciity. Some cherry and red currant, but not a lot more to speak of. On day 2, however, this is a completely different wine...180 degrees different. This has dark plum/prunes, cinnamon, cloves, cedar, and a fine acidity that pulls it all together. On day 1, I would have scored this at 87 pts. On day 2, it is easily 91 pts...maybe even higher. This is lovely. So, this needs a LOT of air to come around.

Terroir-istes International - Spain, Rioja (Rodwell House): Medium garnet to orange edge. Crayon aroma, some black fruits, earth but not a whole lot. High acidity on entry but lacks the flesh, spiky unintegrated alcohol, no real material almost lean.

Nothing to write home about here. Light bodied and lightly fruited inthe first half before a not insignificant layer of sweetish oak comes over the top. The oak actually drives the wine quite well but I'm not looking for this character in 5yr Rioja. Not inclinded to spend $37 on this wine again.

a medium ruby-red, the nose is a red rose and with some air shows some liquorish, on the palate are cherries, raspberries, and hints of leather all backed by modest acid and tannin, pleasant, had without food, and it was good

Ruby color. On the nose: blackberry/cherry fruit accompanied by leather, cedar, and tobacco. Yummy. Wonderful bright strawberry and dried cranberry on the palate followed by tobacco and cinnamon. Fine tannins. Lovely acidity. Finishes with relatively good length. Overall, a delicious wine. Not terribly complex, but beautifully balanced.
