Luca Ferraris Wine Social at L'Uva: Second wine tasted at the L'Uva Italian Wine Social featuring Luca Ferraris Wines, presented by Chiare Ferraris, wife of Luca. Retails in the $18 range. Nice, bright cherry and berry aromas on the nose, with some hits of oak cream in there as well. Not as earthy as I was expecting, but Chiare says they keep the oak influence to a minimum to showcase the great fruit from their vineyards. Bright cherries and dark cherries carry over to the palate where the oak tannins present hints of earth but also add a nice structure. Acidity is good and overall the wine finishes very clean. Its the "lighter" style of Barbera, and as such it is well made but will not be as complex as the higher end, $20+ Bd'A's on the market. Unfortunately the price doesn't suggest it's role as an everyday quaffer. B+ (note- the wine at the social may have been the 2010 Barbera; I have 2009 in my notes but the program says 2010)

The bottling I had may have been the "Vigna del Martin", going by the store website. A little barnyard on the nose, with a very slight hint of brett, medicinal cherry, talcum powder. Slight aspirin minerality to the finish. Juicy and fruity, decent for the simple quaffer that it is. 84-85.
