Longoria Tempranillo Vertical Tasting (Falls Church, VA): This started out with a massive blast of vanilla/oak when poured, but after about 15 minutes in glass the vanilla aroma blew off leaving a smell which could be described as stinky cheese (if you like it) or BO (if you don't.) Less tannic than '05 and '06, more in line with '07. This comes off as less ripe than any of the prior vintages, with a green tinge around the edges. Tasted blind, the green tinge would have caused me to guess this one to be from South America - Chile or Argentina. Certainly many will like this wine but most in our group pretty strongly preferred the three prior vintages to this one.

Dark tones of violet, blueberry, and huckleberry introduce this wine’s aroma, while a spin in the glass reveals notes of plum, forest berries and dark stone.
Deep, dark, and dense on the palate, this wine shows rich notes of blackberries, plums, and blueberry preserves. Faint streaks of leather, cacao powder, and vanilla cream appear around the edges, and are elevated by a precise acidity.
Santa Barbara Trip - July 2011; 7/1/2011-7/6/2011: Los Olivos Tasting Room. Shy nose of spices, and a touch of mint in there. Smooth mouthfeel, good fruit, and a spicy finish. Interesting central coast take on the spanish grape..

Another great showing of this wine. Fast becoming one of my favorite reds for current consumption. Dark and substantial-looking, it has a nose full of crushed red berries and flowers. In theouth, rich, full, smooth, chocolatey. Just has gobs of fat fruit. Long finish. Bravo! 5-13-17-8: 93/100.

Deep, dark garnet. Has a really gorgeous nose with vanilla and a hint of mint, baking spices and nutmeg. Really lush, sleek and supple in the mouth. Downright plush. Lovely, lovely fruit, this is really pretty. Made for current consumption and delivers lots to like. One of the most yummy wines you'll find made from this varietal. 5-13-16-8: 92/100.
