Northern Gevrey 1er (Zoom): Others liked this more than me. I found the fruit too stewy. Still has some life and energy, and perhaps a success for the vintage, but not giving much pleasure.

Gevrey-Chambertin (Northside) 1er Cru Tasting (Chicagoland): In 97/02/09/10 vertical. I had very low expectations, and they were far exceeded...this is a great 1997. Shockingly fresh with a it of too much new oak still protruding, but with classically black fruited/ meaty Gevrey character throughout. If served blind, I would have thought younger (2000?).

an excellent 97 that is in its drinking window, but has enough acidity to show well over the next four to five years. black cherry and earth on the nose, with plush fruit and iron in the mouth. very nice finish. better than i was expecting.

$89 restaurant price. Gorgeous red cherry fruit and faint spice. Solid acidity. At the stage where it has started to develop early secondary / tertiary nuances. Giving off nice perfume. Another 3+ years should benefit this one... Served from the restaurant's Eurocave (55 - 60 degrees), which was a great temp at which to fully enjoy the wine... but when it warmed up to restaurant temp it was not at all flattering for the wine, as the heat took away the focus and the aroma was much more diffuse...

Enjoyed the wine over several days with food. Mildly perfumed bouquet of earth and red cherry . On the palate, mildly sweet, medium bodied.
