Pulled the cork after 1.5 years after initial coravin. It has held up nicely in the sense that the wine was not oxidized in the slightest, which is a testament to the device. For whatever the reason, time was not good to this one. The wine seemed a bit dumb and subdued, however, which is not my recollection at all. While I was expecting new wood to really show (as I think this is a modernist Barolo) there just wasn't a lot going on, and it seemed rather devoid of any particular character. Mostly it suffered from being drunk alongside an 04 A. Conterno Barolo and an 04 A. Conterno Barolo Romirasco, two spectacular wines that FAR outclass this. I have a couple more bottles and I will see how they do, probably skipping the coravin with the next ones.
Coravin. Sweet Jesus! Still very youthful and barely showing its stuff, but clearly this is gorgeous. Stacked and packed with gobs of dark fruits, tar, saddle leather, tar, and more tar. No experience with P. Conterno but this is the real deal. This is a baby and easily there is 20 years on deck here. Love it love it love it.

Old world Barolo. Raspberry and cherry on the nose (along with alcohol and volatile hydrocarbons). Cherries and stone fruit on the palate. Acidic, but balanced. Tannins present, but not overwhelming.

Balanced red fruit, little bit of tar. Just starting to enter an early drinking window for those who don’t mind some tannin
