Lovely nose of ripe cherries, tobacco, charcuterie and dried Mediterranean herbs. Maybe a touch high toned with the 15% alcohol but great nonetheless.
On the palate a striking first impression of cherry liquor, and plums slowly mellowing into chocolate and redcurrant notes as the acidity and fruit intertwine. A base note of tobacco and herbs along with the acidity keeps the fruit and alcohol from feeling flabby and blowsy. There’s a lovely cashmere texture to the entry and mid palate that then turns into a drying exit as the still robust tannins make their presence felt.
All told a lovely Barolo. It’s on the rich and alcoholic side but everything is kept in balance and the interplay of velvet richness, earthiness and tannic structure are enchanting.

My final bottle from this vintage and it was from a 3L bottle that I shared with my wine group friends. Opened, but not decanted, I may actually be shorting this a point. Long spicy finish, medium bodied. Great nose.

Barolo night with friends. Of the 5 barolo this one was the only one that did not get decanted and that was a mistake. Cherry, roses and violets on the nose. The pallet started out a little harsh/intense but over time kept getting better and better till about an hour in you found yourself saying, dam, this is really nice! Sour Cherries, earth, tar, still noticable tannins but very smooth and pleasant. Good mouthfeel and long finish. Probably a 90 when first opened and a 94 after an hour in the glass. Would buy again. Probably my number 2 or 3 behind the 06 sandrone le Vigne sibi et paucis-- which was everyone's wotn.

Truffles and Such with Barolo & Barbaresco (David's Place, Mpls): Dark red color (I think, hard to tell in the dark) . PNP, drank a glass over an hour plus. Cassis, black cherry, dense, tar, dense!, grip, long. This is still rather youthful but still invigorating now and very promising. 92(+)pts.

Very tasty with a 4 hours in the duck decanter. I suspect this will be even better in a few years.
