Community Tasting Notes (3) Avg Score: 95.3 points

  • Clear, medium ruby.
Nose: Red and dark cherries, strawberry, earth, violets, oak. Hints of barnyard and lavender. Developing, but already full and expressive.
Palate: High acidity, full body, medium(+) flavour intensity of red and dark cherries, earth, violets, savoury notes. Medium(+) integrated tannins, long finish.
This had serious concentration, but seems much too young. The nose closed down a little after a couple of hours. May well have been better the next day, but this bottle was never going to last anywhere near that long. Keep until after ~2022 for improved results. 94-95 pts.

  • RSV night (Extra Space): Slow-oxed in bottle in chilled locker for 4 hours before drinking.
Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose medium+ intensity, with aromas of sweet toasty oak, dark red cherries, earth, slight floral notes, chocolate, and slight barnyard. Developing.
On the palate, dry. high acidity, medium+ alcohol (13.5%), very fine medium tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of concentrated ripe dark fruits - sweet dark red cherries and black cherries. Other flavours of savoury earth, toasty oak, sweet spices. Lots of intense concentrated potential rumbling within.
    Very very very long finish.
Outstanding quality. Combination of the ripe vintage, winemaker's touch, and the Grand Cru terroir, have combined at this point in time to give a sense of that kind of ripe primary profile associated with New World Pinot Noir. Then the savoury earth kicks in, and you know that this ain't no New World Pinot. And finally, the restraint of the whole wine itself on the palate, juxtaposed with the ultra-long finish. Somehow you know this can only be top tier Grand Cru Burgundy.
If only we can try this again in 10 years' time.

  • Tasted at Domaine blind. Beautiful nose with still mostly primary notes. A bit of truffle and mushroom notes starting to show. Plenty of tannins yet it's starting to mellow (compared to the 2013s and 2014 barrel samples we had). I guessed 2009 but couldn't get the vineyard, only I knew it was probably a pretty good bottle.
When revealed we were surprised at the generosity of Pascal to give us a taste of the RSV. Lovely stuff.. if only this was affordable to the mere mortal. :)
