A single vineyard, Reserve wine from vines planted in 1995. A cool vintage from a higher site. Whole cluster 25%. Drunk over three evenings. Under screw cap. Primary bright ruby with purple highlights. Quintessential - almost stereotypical - vibrant, dark fruit forward Central Otago pinot noir. Aromas of black cherries, crème de cassis, blackberries, dried herbs and dark spices. In the mouth, polished black cherry, blackberry and a little creamy high cacao chocolate. Succulent and plummy. Refined, spherical tannins. The oak largely integrated. Decent acidity. Delicious but not overly complex. The dense fruit hides the 14% ABV well. Best on the first evening, deteriorating a little each evening from then. Drink from now.
