Mainly Pinots Dinner with Peter Rosback: My magnum was sealed under cork and wax. New oak 36%, whole bunch 20%. I didn't have great hopes for this wine and it did not look good when I double decanted it five hours early. It needed that as by dinner it had begun to open quite nicely. The bramble, black fruit and damp peaty earth aromas had most people thinking of Martinborough, not Central Otago Pinot. Similar flavours on palate with lots of black fruit, bracken, dark earth and liquorice. Pretty much there now for drinking. Rauno somehow picked the wine as an '04. Widely considered the wine of the flight. The rest of the bottle drank well the next day, just beginning to soften, with a hint of dark plums. Perhaps, being in magnum, this matured more slowly than a typical 750?

Deep ruby for pinot. Very earthy/clay nose, and lots of savory character. On the palate, there is darker pinot fruit, a little loam and dark cherry. this has a nice herbal background, and an almost saline character, but the midpalate flesh and balance of its youth has faded and it is a little thin and almost ascerbic on the back end. This was much better a couple three years ago. Still very good, but frankly disappointing. I bought this on release at the winery and have cellared it appropriately since then. I really enjoyed this a few years ago. Unfortunate. 87 pts.

Goodbye tasting for Michael (Michaels appartment): Medium red color with an orange hue. Inviting nose with warm, red fruit, black cherries, boiled candies, red licorice and black olives. On the palate it is opulent and very juicy with loads of dark cherry fruit. Somewhat full-bodied and masculine impression, with licorice and chocolate on the midpalate and finish. Powerful and intense with a well balanced acidity and great length.

Nose: Very intense black currant, coffee, black pepper, dark olives and bitter dark chocolate.. Palate: Huge intensity and very primary with dark plums and an insane amount of black olives. Very long with dirt in the end. Excellent wine that would be intersting to follow.
