  • 12,5% alcohol.

Developed and quite translucent dark cherry color with a brick-hued rim. Savory and very slightly oxidized nose with pretty tertiary aromas of sour cherries, some raisins, light sweet notes of prunes, a little bit of tangy aldehydic character of green almonds and green apple slices and a touch of dried forest fruits. The wine is ripe, lean and somewhat closed on the palate with medium body and savory flavors of ripe dark berries, sour cherry bitterness, some old woody tones, a little bit of cigar and a hint of beef jerky. The flavors are quite old and somewhat subdued, with only emphasizes the rather tough and angular structure of high acidity and grippy tannins. The finish is dull, somewhat flat and medium in length with quite pronounced acidity and tertiary flavors of sour cherry bitterness, earth, tart cranberries, some raisiny tones, a little bit of beef jerky and a hint of cigar.

An aged Brunello that's not really oxidized or defective, but obviously going downhill. The overall style is quite lean, light for a Brunello with pretty high acidity and low alcohol - most likely this wasn't a particularly impressive wine to begin with. I can imagine the wine must've performed nicely a decade ago, but now it's falling apart. No need to age these any longer; drink up!
