couldn't let the entire weekend pass without busting open the great american grape.
14.8% alcohol. $31.95 from dean and deluca. my only bottle, and i've never tasted this wine before.
interesting blend of 86% zinfandel, 10% charbono, and 4% petite sirah.
explosive nose that really filled up the kitchen. that nose is clearly zin, but my first sip was attention grabbing. made me think of a marietta wine i had a few years ago (and didn't like). i presume it's the charbono i'm tasting. i don't have any experience with this varietal. no real heat, but quite peppery with a dab of plum. not over extracted, decent balance, medium body. it's opened in the glass a bit over the last half hour. now a little raisiny, which i don't like. good finish.
the good outweigh the bad for me on this wine, although i'm hard pressed to say i would purchase it again. it occurs to me that it would best be suited in a blind tasting lineup of zins. it's definitely distinctive, and i firmly believe it would win many tasters over. i'm happy to be trying/drinking it. conditional recommendation.

Still delicious, but time to drink up.
