RED BROWN ON THE EDGE, STILL SHOWING LOTS OF FRUIT, AN ELEGANT WINE WITH BLACKBERRIES, CURRANTS, BLACK CHERRIES AND LICORICE IN THE NOSE AND FLAVOR. MEDIUM TO LONG FINISH.

Although some of the earlier reviewers suggested this was in end-of-life phase, last night's bottle was in prime drinking condition. High fill from a bottle purchased soon after release, taken from store to cellar and never moved since. No bricking on the rim, still ruby to purple. Classic Napa cab nose right from the start. Medium to full bodied. Palate not highly complex but interesting and inviting. Long finish with a muted edge of tannins which balanced the wine well. While drinking at peak now it should hold for a couple more years.

I am constantly amazed at some of the "drinking windows" seen here on CT. Case in point: this wine. Despite many comments of "in decline" and "drink by 2008" this wine tonight was lovely, with deep pluumy fruit, earthy notes and even an herbal quality to it. No longer primary (which I suppose could mean OTH to some) but in a very nice spot now with several years of life left ahead of it -- and this from a passively cooled cellar that goes up to 60° in the summer.

Decanted 30 minutes. Bricking at the rim. Nose of red fruits, tobacco, violets and a little bit of orange peel. Tasting mostly secondary flavors, with tobacco, earth, saddle, menthol and some plums peaking through. Started to decline after an hour. This was my last $25 bottle, and it was a nice run. Time to drink up.
