  • A little two-dimensional and lacking in acidity at first, just juicy with a interesting and rich oxidative element dominating, but really started to sing on another taste an hour or two after opening - much better acidity, quince, lemon curd with the oxidative note taking more of a back seat

  • If you're a complete wine geek and want something that's going to trip you out over a few hours, pick this wine up. Otherwise, I wouldn't suggest it. Initial nose is very off-putting and oxidized. But after an hour an a half of tasting through it, some of the pleasant notes came out. Had some cement, biscuit, lemon zest notes on the nose and palate.

    I'm a bit surprised it held up as long as it has, but it's definitely well past it's prime. Go with one of their newer sparkling wines for better quality.

  • California Vacation (Sonoma, SF, Monterey); 8/5/2017-8/12/2017: Tasted at winery. This is quite oxidized, as one would expect. That said, there are some pleasant nutty notes, with toffee and some bread dough. A bit too far for my palate.

  • A Visit to Thomas Fogarty Winery (Thomas Fogarty Winery): Waaayyyyy to oxidative. Apparently they forgot about this in the cellar and are selling it at a reduced price. Still not worth it. On the initial pour this is quite dark for its age. Deep rich golden yellow. Very mature. The nose is pure apple cider, oxidized green grapes and caramel sauce. I don't think I can get into this even on an intellectual level. Not really resembling what I appreciate in traditional method sparkling in any way, even compared to champagne 20 years older than this.

  • Deep gold in color. Fine tiny bubbles. Aromas of apple cider and pears and bruleed lemon. Round and rich in the mouth showing a creaminess with ripe apple and pear with a little bit of citrus, caramel and brioche. A little oxidized as one would reasonably expect. Good acid to help cut through all the richness. Good length showing just a touch of minerlity on the finish. Overall, about, what you would expect at this price point.
