Funk, funk, funk. I'm about 10 years late. At this point, this is like a blend of 30 year old barolo, 20 year old Chateauneuf and 15 year old amarone. Definitely passed peak. Too modern and overripe for me. Lacks subtlety and finesse. Drink up or use in a nice stew.

Needed to sit for about 30 minutes to blow off, and then it was lovely. Still dark and brambly, with just enough acidity to keep it bright on the palate. Second/last bottle and it seems like it's at peak now.

From a magnum. Decanted for about 1 hour. What struck me most about this wine was the impeccable balance and the seamless integration of all the elements. Dark berry/cherry and spice with perhaps a bit of oak and earth. So perfectly smooth on the palate with a medium body and a medium to long finish. Nothing overdone or underdone and an absolute delight to drink.

Better than last time but this is not my type of pinot. Reminds me more of Châteauneuf du Pape than Burgundy.
