Brilliant taste with chocolate, cherry and blackberry. Well balanced with soft tannins. Descant for 11/2 hrs. A great partner with octopus in red wine stew and awesome on its own.

This has a chunk of russian oak on it, and then french oak. Two seperate batches. This comes from the estate vineyard whereas the "basic" wines are sourced fruit. Very aromatic, this is the "beauty" at the winery, as compared to the Edicion, which is known as the beast.
So the main difference between this and the "regular" gran reserva is the barrel. The Gran Reserva is american staves with french heads, this is some in completely russian, some in completely french. So the idea is that this gives you very sweet tannins. Like a braised lamb, rosemary characteristic.
But the lingering question I have is why? are we just tasting the wine-maker's experiment?
Well, there is a difference, and the Gran Reserva is spicer, harder tannins, a bit more sous bois; the Lanciano is more elgant, savory

Day 2 and I get a revelation what it means when someone says that wine has rose petals in its taste. Not too oaky palate and the acidity has nice depth in it, not just sharp but at the same time broad. Medium bodied. This should age well. 28e in Finland, should be a bit cheaper still.

Weekly tasting group #064; Spain (@ SB): Beautiful bouquet with some spiciness and elegant oak. On the palate juicy dark fruits, chocolate, soft acidity, round tannin and pleasant oak. A little more classical and elegant style. Beautiful wine.
