  Agree with "not much going on." Dried red fruit that is showing age. Tannins still present but a bit austere and overwhelmed the residual fruit. Cork was concerning and there was absolutely no sediment. Kept well. Purchased upon release from reputable shop and no question of provenance. Pleasant. Perhaps too old or just a lackadaisical bottle.

  Decanted for an hour, to remove sediment, it keeps improving with air. Med (+) brown with an orange rim. Ripe red cherry, red currant, black plum, roses, medicinal herbs, tobacco, balsamic, pencil shavings, pine forest floor, mushroom, dark cocoa, sweet baking spice. The nose is still developing. Dry, med to med (+) acidity, med (+) to high, but polished tannins. High alcohol (14.5%). Palate still has enough fruit, consistent with the nose, to offset the structure. Relatively youthful after 18 years. So elegant and balanced that it appears med (+) in body. Still has several years to go.

  Decanted for sediment and drank over 2 hours. Very good again, not much change in the last 4 years, although the first hour was the better of the two. Pretty wine, very elegant. Bricking on the edges, a bit of leather on the nose. Medium-weight, smooth texture, palate of earth, roses, cherries, spices, mineral, mushroom and some oak. Very enjoyable now. I see no reason to hold any longer.

  Purchased on release - the first bottle of this I've opened. It's on the cusp of maturity. Garnet color, powerful nose, mid-weight in the mouth, lacking a notch or two of balance. A lovely wine, but one that shows more oak than I like these days. Not overwhelming but still present to a degree I find intrusive. Otherwise - there is dense leather/rose petal - classic notes - along with dried herbs, wood notes, a bit of olive smoke. I won't assign a point score to the wine - but personally, I am no longer adding Conterno-Fantino wines to my cellar. The Parussi, incidentally, is no longer among the Barolo made by C-F.
