  • double decanted for sediment in AM and drunk that evening over 3 hours with Flannery hangar steaks my wife's masked potatoes and broccoli rabe.

The color of weak tea in the AM, it darkedned at least three shades but the time we drank it. Tertiary on the nose, but still with fruit. Tar, dried rose petals, potpourri, cherry fruit, porcini, and decaying leaves. On the palate, there is still tension and lift, more cherry fruit, porcini and some medicine cabinet/ balsamic notes. The tannins are for the most part resolved, fully mature, with subtle power without weight. Elegant and effortless. Savory and very long. Terrific, but not as transcendent as a bottle a couple years back. 95

  • This is a very heavy handed aged barolo with liquorice, ink, plums, lead and chinese medicinal liquor. Palate is very plummy and metallic, but the plum is a bit overwhelming

  • Still youthfully colored. An intoxicating nose. Deep cherry fruit, roses, tar, all with great freshness, and purity. I could have easily guessed 25 years younger. On the palate, more roses, tar, huge perfume, beautiful tension. For me I think Castiglione hits the highest heights for me. There are other finer and more powerful zones, but this seems to have the best of both for me. Terribly fresh, poised, regal wine. Fantastic. Hard to fathom how good this was. Stunning for both its quality and the pleasant surprise drinking it. Brilliant. 97
