  • Pure class! Even the dregs were spectacular, perhaps due to the surprisingly tiny amount of sediment.

Although I’ve had a half dozen bottles of Cavallotto Freisa, Pinot Nero, Nebbiolo and Dolcetto, this is my first Barolo and it is unsurprisingly the best of my now 7 bottles tasted. Bright acidity, unobtrusive tannins and copious amounts of florals and tar provide my best Barolo experience in quite a while.

Side note: If Cavallotto wasn’t such a classic traditionalist producer, this label would be a turnoff. As they are one of the OG’s, it’s as badass as Conterno, Accomasso and Jayer.

  • BaBa 05-10 dinner session at Bar Cicheti.
Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of classic red cherries, red pomegranate, deep emerging earth. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14%), structured high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of classsic sour red cherries, pomegranate, spices, emerging deep earth. Very long rumbling finish.
Very good quality. Deep and structured but doesn't have the muscularity and darkness of Serralunga, so I was guessing Castiglione Falletto and the flagbearer Cavallotto. A very well done 2007.

  • Still drinking well! Red berry fruit with balanced tannins .
Tertiary notes of wood, soil and leather. Very enjoyable

  • Tasted blind. Textbook Barolo, Roses, tar, persistent but fine tannins. Plums, sour cherries, hung meat. Still young obviously but having been opened several hours before drinking it was nicely approachable. Will be better in 5 years or more.

  • Amaranten BYO, vin 2:
