Sporting a youthful opaque ruby robe, Mi Sueño's 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon continues to flash an equally youthful, fruit-forward package of black bramble fruits, bittersweet chocolate, espresso, pipe tobacco and allspice. Full-bodied, fresh, seamlessly alcoholic (14.5%), judiciously oaked and dense in the middle, it wraps its flavors with abundant silky-textured tannins and finishes with impressive length. Well-cellared bottles should reach their twentieth birthday with grace. Drink now-2028.

This wine's color belies its 5-year age, appearing as an opaque purple/crimson barrel sample. The nose is immediately expressive (after splash-decanting) of black bramble fruits, chocolate, espresso and allspice. Full-bodied, rich and layered, it struts similar flavors in a frame of medium acidity and big (but microfine) tannins. The alcohol (listed as 14.5%) provides structure but virtually no heat. Solid in the middle, it concludes with a lusciously long and smooth finish. This will not be confused with Bordeaux, but should be judged with the "heavyweight" Napa Cabs (which are distinct but certainly on a par with the top classified growths of Bordeaux). Enjoy it for another 10-15 years. Drink now-2028.

Slow-O 2 hours, served side by side with 2007. Clean, bright and focused, with sweet tannins and avg+ acids. Likely to hit peak in another year or two. Worth the $55, I think. Drink thru 2020, 14,5% abv

One of my favorite wines — it never disappoints! This is smooth on the palette with deep fruit flavors and a nice long finish.
