Dinner at Canard (Canard, Portland OR): This was one of those moments with wine that I deeply love. You smell something that you've never smelled before and yet your mind wanders to where its from and imagine what it would be like to be there. Then you get zapped back to an outdoor top for 6 during a heatwave. This is a deep, savory, and passionate nose that is loaded with dark plum, black cherries, black raspberries, violets, cedar, smoke, toast, spices, and thyme. The Full bodied feel is a heavyweight that is still very nimble while carrying through all of the complexity and depth of the nose. The tart, medium+ acidity and chewy, medium+ tannins are resolving, though they are still making their presence known. I have no clue what kind of lifespan this will have. What I do know is that this is killer and I'm glad I had a chance to have it.

No formal notes as this was brought to a restaurant (first time in nearly two years for me!) without a notebook, but this was showing spectacularly well and easily the most refined wine of the night (with nice CDP, Barolo, and Pinots in the mix... 8 total wines). The aromas were incredible. This is the kind of wine that I could just smell for hours. It both shows complexity, amazing depth, and deliciousness all in one; a lot going on here with graphite, soil, and intense berry blend the dominant notes. The palate was rich and incredibly smooth, with a finish full of acidity and integrated tannins. When I had this on release it drank well over days, but at this point I do believe it's ready to go... though not going anywhere either. However, I won't hesitate to have my next bottle within the next few years to witness this peak again. Hugely enjoyable effort. Too bad it's not imported anymore, but I certainly understand why.

Interesting wine. Musty earthy bouquet and palate. Still a bit young in my opinion. Day two and the wine had really opened up. Musty bouquet and palate was replaced by ripe fruit and spice. Finish gained considerable length.

Shy to start with, but this is a real beauty. High acidity, complex with great structure. Feels younger than it is.
