  • Certainly past it's prime but it remains an elegant Chardonnay. A bit of maderization in the front palate but finishes nicely. Near amber colour.

  • There is a reason I keep quality Chardonnay for longer than most people consider prudent and this bottle justified it! I fully expected this to be totally gone. It was my last bottle and I brought it up from the cellar along with another older bottle, 1988 Chateau Montelena Napa Chard hoping one would be good. I was amazed that both were Great! The Matanzas Creek was a greenish yellow color but quite vibrant showing no sign of oxidation. The nose a little grassy, with a clear Parmagiano cheese and Lemon scent. With air it got more and more elegant. It had absolutely not sign of oxidation. It was luscious and vibrant and went great with truffle fries...along with the lemon comes some apricot and a buttercup scent. It got richer and smoother over 3 hours. Astoundingly good and well balanced for a 17 year old wine.
