  • This was clearly not at the same level of the excellent '05. This fruit only vaguely expresses bdx blend characteristics and it's also missing the mineral element which was a big part of '05's appeal. It starts with fairly generic dark fruit, gains some direction with air but still doesn't speak cabernet with conviction. It's good in the mouth with rich, smooth texture, medium weight and very little finishing tannin. Now or wait. Next day I see some cabernet in the distance but also a touch of VA. And now I'm getting some minerals which gives the fruit more direction.

  • I asked David at 38Central to make sure he got some of this for us to taste next time he got wine from Troon. We recently tasted and reviewed the 2006 vintage of this Bordeaux varietal based red blend. The color is dark ruby with a shimmer at the edge that denotes this may age well. The nose is a deep black fruit, leather, tobacco with hints of vanilla and clove. The palate has a solid fruit with nice layered structure and long tannin that will soften further with age. Immensely enjoyable red blend, that was awesome with the burger at 38 Central.
