  • This is big wine that shows up after about an hour of being open. huge rich dark red color. touch subtle nose (not the most aromatic) but notes of soft pepper, red roses and rich purple dark fruit. follows up with big fruit on the palate like dark plum, cherry, chewy grape, beets and blackberry. a little dusty earth. exceptional tannins only on the finish with a wicked 35+ second gripping follow through. very interesting wine - almost seems one dimensional on the nose and initial taste (wine might have been poured a touch too cool) but the follow-through complexity and palate weight are outstanding with great white and green pepper and touch of pink salt with huge chewy extracted fruit. should hang in there for 10+ years at this rate. feels a little more modern style rhone style here w/ no gamey flavors that you might expect from rhone - in my opinion.

took these notes over about a 2 hour time. changed significantly as it opened with more soapy and broader fruit characteristics. if I had another bottle would have decanted for at least 2 hours before touching. curious on other folks' notes on this one.
