Nice surprise from the bottle with a very silly label. Nose of earth, olive, violet and brine. Lots of body for the palate, with earth, plum, game, olive and a touch of sanadalwood. Big wine but not spoofy. Pared with an excellent Crozes, I enjoyed this one just a little more. Excellent.

Stinky but still sweet olive aromas, with a black peppered scrambled egg character too. Precise acidity is woven into a fabric that's not silky but is more like finely spun wool. Flowery flavors hint at chocolate, with a fainter note of licorice. Elegant, polished Cornas that still manages to have real personality...and the absence of obvious oak is a plus as well.

(Pierre Gaillard Cornas Les Combes) Very dark red violet color; ripe black fruit, plum, blackberry, white pepper nose; tasty, tart plum, blackberry, graphite palate with depth; medium-plus finish

Very funky in a good way. Meaty and pungent earth on the nose. Good meaty cherry with some mineral on the palate. Excellent.

2006 Northern Rhone Superstars at Vin Vino Wine: Sweet oak, vanilla, olive, candied black fruits, some volatile acidity. Surprisingly revolting; I moved on in a hurry.
