Beautiful upon opening at Iggy’s, but positively singing after 45 min - stunning nose, and a joy on the palate. Years ahead, but can be savored - or relished - now given the vintage. A real treat!

Serafin Pere er Fils Gevery Chambertin 1er Cru Fonteny 2000 Serafin Pere er Fils Gevery Chambertin 1er Cru Corbeaux 2000 Tip of the corks were mouldy. Fonteny’s cork turned with my corkscrew and I worked the corkscrew with full attention to get it out in one piece. A sample pour suggests it was okay. Both were left to stand and poured directly from the bottles. 13%. Both were light rustic ruby. The Corbeauz was well opened after the 90 min stand. Cherries. Vanilla. Chocolate. Still fruit dominant on the nose. Well rounded and balanced finish with a tint of sweetness. This Corbeaux won me over the Fonteny. The Fonteny was relatively tighter but it evolved over the next hour or so (2.5 hours after opening). Very light nose. Lots of cherries and raspberries. More minerality and oak as secondary notes on the last second last pour. Some spice. Good acidity. More complexity and seductive than the Corbeaux as the night went on. Both wines went very well with the fried chicken with Chinese prawn sauce and fried noodles. Fonteny appears to be more superior as it could possibly last and evolved several years after the Corbeaux martures. I enjoyed both, though at different parts of the evening.

No written notes taken. From memory. Light ruby colour. Poured straight from bottle and it just seemed incredible open right away with a fantastic nose of cherries, cherries and more cherries. Lovely balanced taste with fruit still dominant. That changed a little over the course of the 2 1/2 hours we drank it with minerality and oak as secondary notes. If any flaws it might be that the warmths/alcohol in the aftertaste seems just a tiny little bit too dominant. But overall a very nice wine.
I started out with a stingy 90 that I regretted. Its more a 92-93 point wine when it gets a chance to grow on you./steen

Tasting. Red and black fruit on nose and palate. Oak sweetness frames the fruit nicely. Starts with black cherry, evolves on palate towards lighter flavors of red cherry and raspberry. Good concentration and finish, but still most likely best 2005-2010.
