  • Popped and poured. Still a darker ruby color. Lots of licorice and anise on the nose, but also black raspberry and violets. Integrated layers of plum, raspberry, and black cherry on the palate made more complex by the appearance of thyme, anise, leather, and soy notes. Oak presence barely noticeable. Moderate acidity and strong tannins, leading to a longer finish of underbrush, sweet plum, iron, and spices. Enjoyable in its adolescence, with a bit of complexity showing.

  • Opened out with 30 minutes in the decanter. A beautiful Gevrey nose; polished, almost singed Pinot - a mix of red and blue fruit, earth, and (with time) floral notes that kick it up a notch. Really very good. 93-94. Maybe bottle variation, maybe age - but no over-oaking or nail polish on this one.

  • Quite dark ruby. Nose promising with scents of licorice, black raspberry, earth, florals. Still very oaky (the reason I was not enthusiastic the last time) with dark fruits, anise, blackberry, and leathery notes. Atringent, rather short finish with only modest acidity and fine-grained tannins. Not a fan. Perhaps less than perfect provenance since two out of two bottles have shown like this.

  • Berry Bros & Rudd - One Day Burgundy Wine School (Berry Bros, London): Leather, farmyard, phenolic,
lovely ripe and unripe strawberry, tannin, wonderful, lovely drop. Very nice and, unfortunately, expensive at GBP 91 a bottle.

  • Popped and aerated in the glass for an hour before dinner. Darker ruby color. Nose of cinnamon, licorice, walnuts, blackberry. Black fruits and minerals on the palate, with some complexity and nuance, but the influence of oak was strong and in my mind excessive. Acidity was moderate and refreshing, tannins still strong, finish moderate. Very interesting wine, but would wait on further bottles to moderate the oak, if that is possible.
