  • Euming's 40th Birthday (Kingyo, Telok Ayer): Decanted for an hour or so before serving. This was a beguiling wine. Young, but quite lovely. The nose was quite multifarious, with layers chalk and cream, ginger flowers and white pepper, fleshy apples and white melon, with a little kick of lemon at the sides. Lovely. The palate was very commendable for a 2009. Clearly ripe and broad-shouldered, with depths of apple, melon and bread-fruit, but still a well balanced by a decent touch of lemony acidity - this fanned across the mouth in a creamily textured flow, all the way into a broad, full finish traced with almond, butter and toast. Not the most nuanced and delicate Montrachet - this was more old school - but it was very enjoyable nonetheless; a study in power, intensity and depth, all held in a surprisingly decent balance for a 2009. One to drink sooner rather than later though. It has some way to go yet, but I would have it over the next 4-5 years rather than decades down the road.

  • Decanted 30 mins.
Lovely mineral nose, white peaches, wet stone, chalk, a touch of vanilla (wood). A bit shy.
Lovely full taste, quite creamy , pears and apples, but with refreshing acidity. A lot of potential. Quite young still.
