PNP. First tasting shows lovely nose, mature cherry, slightly earthy and displaying some coffee grind notes. Silky palate, good acidity and very lively fruit, long finish. The hard tannins from the 95 vintage have mellowed.
Update after 2 hours. The nose is showing more forest floor, slightly metallic and less coffee, still lovely. Palate has softened a bit, the fruit has come to the forefront and balances the acidity nicely. Holding up nicely to the extended air time.

Nice nose of red berries, mushrooms, earth, spices, and cherries. The palate is very round with integrated tannins, yet good structure. Notes of red cherries and underwood. Nice finish. Lovely, perfectly aged Burgundy.

Dinner with the wine group (Millbrae, CA): Slightly cloudy, significant bricking; intensely aromatic, red fruited; palate is light bodied, red fruited, slightly earthy; long finish. Really lovely. 94

Marred by an overwhelming amount of band-aid/horse saddle funk that sadly prevented any enjoyment of the wine and which I can only surmise might caused by brett. Refused to blow off after 2 hours. A shame, really, because the wine underneath was still alive.

Bonnes Mares southern 1st cru little sister. In a great window. Tart plum and fully resolved dusty tannins fully integrated and in balance. Hits palate like liquid silk. Delicious!
