Charming bottle of fully mature Vosne, with lots of ripe black and red cherry, baking spice, ending with traces of braised meat. Very good weight for its level, this is a wonderful Villages wine, but best to enjoy in the next few years.

Maturing red cherry and berry throughout with plenty of sweet baking spice, giving an unmistakable Vosne-Romanée character. Clearly ripe, but with enough acidity to maintain its brightness through to a long-ish finish. Good weight, great balance. This was better a few years ago, but is holding up very nicely.

Mature red cherry and berry aromas with slightly sweet spice. Overall nicely fresh and vibrant for Villages 1997, while classically and charmingly Vosne. Perhaps ever-so-slightly past its absolute peak, but very close.
There was one glass left in bottle, so this was recorked and refrigerated overnight. Far less interesting the following evening.

Saturday night blinds (Chez Nanda, Chicago IL): Nose: The nose shows a riper side with dark red cherries, pepper notes, dark red berries, spice tones, and a hint of black raspberries. This is a very upfront nose and while friendly, it's lacking some charm.
Taste: Medium bodied with medium+ acidity and medium tannins. The structure is fairly resolved with the feel showing an upfront quality along with dark red cherries, pepper, black raspberries, violets, and licorice.
Overall: This did feel like a burgundy, but it didn't feel classic. It was friendly and upfront, but it lacked some depth across the nose and palate.

Double Blind Virtual tasting (Chicagoland IL): Dirty, funky, inconsistent with other recent (very good) bottles.
