  • Bought a case of this in 2014 from UK. Opened 2 bottles so far, first one three weeks ago, uncorked and left in bottle for 3 hours and decanted just prior to a typical Cantonese dinner (with a bit of everything, meat, poultry, fish); second one three nights ago, uncorked for 8 hours and decanted just before BBQ pork chops and steaks were served. The first one merited a 93 with lovely red fruits and acidity and the lighter cuisine somehow made the wine fuller in body and lengthier in finish; the second one scored around 90 because of the strong and fatty BBQ meat taste subdued the wine's medium body style/taste and rendered it thinner and less fruity. Or did I leave the 2nd bottle uncorked for too long and over-breathed it? Or bottle variations? Who knows? But I do think the interaction between the food and wine does affect the perception of the wine. 10 more bottles to play with. The wine is ready to be enjoyed.

  • One of the best Brunellos of Montalciono wines I have ever drank. Is ready, perhaps at the peak, and renewed my interest in the denomination that was down.

  • I have had this producer's wine a couple of other times including a fantastic 2001 I had last year so I had high hopes for this single vineyard bottling. Opened but not decanted and let sit an hour or so before serving.
Color was a deep ruby-purple. Nose had some nice cedar notes. On the palate initially it was sour and not in a sour cherry way but in a red-wine vinegar way. That did blow off and the last glass was decent but I expected a bit more. Will hold last bottle for 4-5 years.
