Only great old bottles eh? This ain't great but it held up ok as a 17yr old. Indeed possibly the oldest Australian chard I've tasted. Old fruits are a little oxidised and hard, some bitterness, but some sweetness slowly pokes through. Structurally quite ok, just very mature.

A fully developed yellow hue , the nose has truly amazing concentration and richness with buttery fig and nectarine.
The palate shows layer upon layer of rich fruits ranging from nectarine to peach, the mid to back palate has oak derived spice, butterscotch richness and a touch of aged honey characters. The acidity is still piercing and balances the decadent palate. A monumentally superb wine that is a real pleasure to drink. Review Link - www.winereviewer.com.au (drink from 2011-2014)

Tucker Seabrook trade tasting (Redfern): Still with a flash of green to the mid-yellow colour. Aged chardy characters; sandalwood, an earthy farmyard sort of note. A spine of solid acid binds it together. Medium body & finish. Impressive stuff.

Auswine Farewell Seamus Offline (Barmuda, Newtown): The pale-mid straw was lighter in colour than the Yattarna, and although the nose was less woody, the wine was very intense & powerful on the palate. Some nuts & figs on the nose, with a dash of smoky vanilla oak, this was also rich and full on the palate, but seemed to have the necessary acid backbone to tie it all together harmoniously. A lovely wine, and at half the price of the Yattarna a clear winner between the two.

Bannockburn Vertical Tasting - Chardonnay, Pinot & Shiraz (Royal Automobile Club, Sydney): Looking a little bit developed in colour, especially compared to the 1995. Slightly oxidative on the nose with straw/hay characters and a heap of butterscotch. Acid is sticking out a bit on the finish which spoils an otherwise full flavoured and powerful palate.
