Smoothing out a bit now, fruit is present. Has the Yakima nose. Palette still gets a bit rolled over by the tannins but not objectionably so. Unbelievable this is an $11 wine.

Clear, day bright, and dark ruby in color with medium-minus viscosity. Layered aromas of plum, blackberry, wild currant, and black cherries that are packaged with aromas of walnut, cured meats and cedar. The nose translates to the palate with enjoyable, cherry, currant and plum fruit flavors, with a core of toasted walnut as well as cedar and tobacco flavors that follow through to the moderate finish that includes light touches of spice and cocoa powder. Slightly thin in the mid palate. The drying tannins are met with moderate acidity.

(Desert Wind Winery Ruah Red Wine Desert Wind Vineyard Wahluke Slope) Lightly aromatic with milk chocolate, red cherries, and spice. The palate is full of sour cherry flavors and firm tannins. 50% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cabernet Franc, 2% Malbec, 1% Barbera. Aged 12 months in American oak. 14.5% alcohol. NB: For purists, the 1% Barbera would remove this from the Bordeaux-style blend category.

Finally settled down, flavors are smooth and the tannins have moderated. Superb balance.

I do love a Bordeaux blend, and this one was very good. Beautiful color, good fragrance, and complex notes of summer and smoke.

Tart cherry, some vanilla oak. Tannic, snappy drinking.
