  • At Chateau Davyd. My bottle. Screw-cap. Drank in Grassl 1855.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of eucalyptus, blackcurrant, grilled ripe bell peppers. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14%), fine high tannins, full body Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of grilled bell peppers, eucalyptus, crunchy blackcurrant fruit, tobacco, young earth, creme de cassis, black licorice. Long finish.
Very good quality. Nicely ripe and very varietally correct Caberet. Showcasing terroir too. Still can go another 10 years I think!

  • Complex bouquet of intense black fruit and tea, smoked sweet peppers, hints of tobacco, leather and earthy minerals. The oak has integrated very well into the elements, giving the fullness to the nose. Palate is full of minerals, earthy and smoky clove with ripe black fruit compote as the base. Good level of soft acidity runs through the entire palate from entry to finish, like how a good Coonawarra Cabernet ought to be. It makes you salivate and want to eat something. As you draw some air into the mouth, some savoury notes of fennel and stewed plums emerged from the tight structure. Needs an hour to open up though. This is medium to full-bodied. Nice transition from mid-palate to finish. But there are still some bitter tannins at the end. Will need another 2-3 years for the tannins to blend well into the wine. This wine should last for another 3-5 years thereafter. 91-93 pts.

  • No formal notes. Stunning wine, day 3 was flawless, give it a lot of time in the decanter as this could live for a long time.

  • Really liked this cabernet. I'm not a great cab fan but the enjoyment factor here was high - blackcurrant, black olive, cedar, chocolate, a hint of eucalyptus. Almost decadent. The tannins starting to settle but still nicely grippy and shapely. Length of flavour outstanding. One of those wines that's hard to find anything to criticise but maybe just doesn't have quite the refinement of better wines.
