Color: dark brown/red with viscous legs Nose: intense. Complex rich aromas of dried dark fruit; very spicy, especially black pepper; smoky qualities emerged in the glass. Body/flavor: full body. Lush, flavors of dried dark fruits; some minerality; Still well balanced although tannins are noticeable Aftertaste: lingering finish
A terrific treat!

Drinking the old wine night. This was one of those “forgotten” bottles that you stumble across in your cellar when searching for a wine to match Mediterranean chicken thighs with onions and chickpeas. Decanted a couple of hours after the cork broke on opening. If tasted blind would have guessed Amorone as it had a raisin like quality. Interesting I noticed this in a prior tasting note from 2011 but not in 2 bottles consumed in 2010. There were plenty of other interesting notes of licorice, dark chocolate, plum pudding and floral notes. Slight bricking but still holding on as these wines are known for longevity. Paired wonderfully with dinner a real food wine as most Italian wines tend to be.

Deep brick red color, has forceful earthiness and plums on the nose and the same plums and blackberries on the palate with tar and iron underneath. Tannins are converted into prodigious sediment now so decanting is recommended unless one stood the bottle up for a couple of days. I think this can go for a while, but it is quite solid now.
