Drank from a magnum. Absolutely monstrous showing from this decade old fiano. The first thing that needs to be said is that the acidity on this was still very high, thus this wine was lively and not over the hill. The nose had plenty of primary fiano notes such as basil, white florals, and stone fruit. Some aged white character was evident with a very beautiful hazelnut/almond note accompanied by loads of gorgeous honey. The palate showed plenty of these notes as well, but with additional savory/salty smoke notes. Lingering finish. Beautifully balanced. Absurd complexity.

Came home with a 2014 and the poor boy was corked to all hell. So I went looking for a white and found the same wine from 2010. Cork slips out very easy. Not always a great sign. But this wine delivers. Rich and warm with slight oxidative qualities. This is really good and after 30 minutes the wine shows it's stuff. I love the texture and acidity. Obvious Chablis notes. Don't be in a rush to drink this but it is absolutely peaking. Continues to get better and better over 1 1/2 hours.

Fiano di Avellino. It is perhaps the richest and most full-bodied of Campania’s white grapes. Ripe peaches, tar, ash, game, leather, earthiness, menthol and licorice are just some of the nuances that can be found in Fiano di Avellino. Some of the best producers of Fiano (in all of its appellations in Campania) include Colli di Lapio, Fattoria La Rivolta, Feudi di San Gregorio, Mastroberardino, Quintodecimo and Terredora. To tell the truth, I struggled to pick just one white grape from Campania. An equally compelling case can be made for the perfumed, floral Falanghinas and the mineral-driven Greco di Tufos. Suffice it to say, Campania is one the most fascinating regions in Italy for both whites and reds.

From magnum. Searing acidity with a cross section of citrus. Very good crunchy, minerally textured. Tough with tonight's rich Chinese food, but very Chablis-like to me.
