First taste this was tight and oaky, let it decant for a couple hours before serving and WOW did it blossom. This was so voluptuous and opulent, the kind of wine that I could drink the entire bottle in a flash by myself without trying if I ever had the chance. This is one of the best youngish red Grand Cru wines I have ever had.
The 02 RSV and 09 Corton-Renardes were like yin and yang. The RSV an intellectual wine where “you have to come to it” versus the Renardes which immediately plants a big kiss on you 😘

Holiday Burgundy Lunch - Rousseau, Leroy, DRC, Ramonet, d'Auvenay (Scottsdale, Arizona USA): Lovely spice aromas, medium dark color. Decadent and inviting palate of rich baking spices and Christmas plum. Still quite young, I wish this had been decanted as it continued to improve in the glass, but quite delicious nevertheless. Should be a real stunner in 5 years or so.

Corton vs Corton: A very solid wine. A bit obvious, but delicious nonetheless. This sure had an attention grabbing nose, with notes of milk chocolate, sweet dark cherries and red berries, earth and toasty spice. Very Leroy in its rich expressiveness, and really attractive. The palate had plenty of character on it too - full, powerful and nicely textured, with slightly powdery tannins and decent enough acidity pulled around rich flavours of black cherries and dark berries, all leading into a big, long finish of warm spice lined with a bit of minerality. A really polished, powerful Corton. Very good, without quite hitting the heights of say the 1985 Maison Leroy Corton a few flights earlier - this seemed a little less nuanced and effortless somehow. It is still a baby compared to the 1985 though. While drinking alright on the night, it will be interesting to try this again a decade down the road to see how it develops.

Super complex and expressive with notes of Redskin lolly, white flowers, sarsaparilla root, beetroot and Chinese 5 spice powder. Again there’s a core of black fruit and it is a large scaled wine but one of really good finesse too.

Stem and animale aromatics (more so than Beaux Monts), absolutely wonderful to smell. Sweet palate, depth to spare. This is Corton? (571/1784)
