  • Now we are talking! After the somewhat lackluster 2001 Monchhof Auslese beforehand, this really redeemed the vintage. Baked apples, maybe a touch of cinnamon on the nose. Ripe but very energetic palate, showing sour apples, white cherries and linden with gobs of salty minerality on the finish. Great complexity and length. Still mostly primary, this should have lots of upside.

  • Tropical fruit peach, mango, slught pineapple. Slight floral. Acidity
seems a little low or fading for Riesling. Nice sweetness. Lingering
    finish.

  • With some air this developed nicely. Still good acidity, very light petrol on the nose. Fruit and mineral finish, medium long. Not gobs of character, but a solid Spätlese.

  • Superb aromas of sweet riesling grape must burst from the bottle as soon as the cork is pulled. Light straw color, backgound green hues, and slightly spritzy. Nose of lemon meringue pie, limes, ripe yellow apples, brown spices especially cloves. Very bright nose. Slight spritz on the palate, deep, very ripe, delicious, sweetish, excellent acidity, juicy and glycerin laden. Moderate length. Could use some more minerality and acidity to take it to the next tier, but that's quibbling. Unchanged in two years, this will last a decade more, at least, though this is drinking absolutely beautifully.

  • Brilliant, light lemon yellow, very pale. Is there a hint of green in this? No spritz. Pure and even etheric young riesling nose - quince, yellow apples, baking spices, talc - soars from the glass. Mid-weight young spat with good minerality, acid and even a dryish, bitter quality that is quite pleasing. Very, very long lemon drop finish. 3 minutes later could still taste remnants. Light, almost Mosel texture gives way eventually to it's Rheingau profile. Very delightful. This can be drunk now and over the next 10+ years, but personally I'd vote for now. It doesn't seem like there's that much more waiting in the wings and I like the light, crisp, etheric aspect now, before the heavier Rhein qualities set in. Very enjoyable.
