Had this laying around the cellar and decided to give it try. I am thoroughly impressed with this wine. It had a very dark red to light purple color to it. On the nose, lots of red fruit, and some notes of lead pencil. On the palate, the tannins are well integrated, however, the finish is extremely short. I was always looking to take another sip to see if I missed something. 15.2% alcohol, but no real hints of it. This wine had one of the better noses I've ever smelled, taste was okay, lacking in complexity, but given the price, this is a well made and impressive wine. Drinks well above its price point. In its prime drinking window currently.

Two years since my previous assessment of this wine and I must say, its holding up beautifully! Dark, opaque and inky purple with high viscosity. Aromas just as big and complex as I remember with sandalwood incense, black licorice, Chinese five spice, vanilla, blackberry, plum sauce, chocolate, flowers and edged with ash, herbs, cedar and charcoal. The palate opens with a rush of melted black licorice, that carries with it flavors of five spice, ash, deep blackberry, fig paste, smoke and candied violets. Balanced, moderate, tannins and acidity. The finish is long and intense lingering on licorice flavors that are reminiscent of Good and Plentys.

This has softened considerably, becoming more feminine and floral. Still nice, but sadly some of the brute strength has faded away.

Impressive. I'm a Rutherford AVA Napa Cab lover, and for me, this little bottle puts Lodi on the map.
