Disappointing. Nose reminded me of distilled spirits - very volatile and hot. OK fruit, but somehow a bit more berry sweetness than I associate with classic syrah.

Deep blackish ruby, aromas of charred wood, deep red fruit, hints of funk, pepper, b4, a4, t2, sweet & thick w/solid fruit, acidity is a bit forward & harsh, soft tannin, bit too much wood, else very nice

This had a beautiful supple, viscous palate with amazing layers of black fruit and spices. The long finish featured (and I'm making this up here) boysenberry liqueur, licorice, more spice, and vanilla. Even a growingly snooty wood-o-phobe like me could appreciate the well-integrated oak throughout this wine. This was exceptionally smooth, as the tannins have receded behind the wonderful black fruit. Beautiful.

So bad, it had to be flawed. Popped and poured down the drain.
