  • Village level Barolo from a difficult vintage.

Chocolate, smoke, star anise, sour cherries, cedar wood and orange peel on the nose. Smells like "modern style" Barolo for sure, but without the excesses sometimes associated with that phrase. Lovely medium + intensity of aromas. The palate adds wet stone, blue cheese and ripe raspberries, while keeping everything else from the nose. Medium intensity of flavors. This has a restrained elegance which I think is common on 2014s. It works well on this, though I can see why others struggled with the vintage.

Medium + body with medium + acid and medium tannin. Drinking well right now. Not really going to benefit from further aging.
