  • Grab Bag Wines with Grilled Pizza (Washington, DC): Wow, I really wish I would've tasted this blind, because it would've perplexed me like crazy, and never would I have guessed Long Island Chardonnay. Almost orange in color, this barrel-fermented Chardonnay smells of lamp oil, apricot, dried flowers and honey, and the combination is somewhat similar to a botrytis dessert wine, but without the sweetness. Nutty and waxy on the palate, with honey, apricot and yellow apple flavors. The acid is tangy, and I love the way it balances out the richness. Really deep and complex. Almost reminds me of an orange wine. My first Channing Daughters wine, and it won't be my last.
