Bright deep red colour. The nose is simple fruit, steady and firm. Soft fruit with lingering dry tannins on the palate with a bite of acid and slight burnt character on the finish. Not complex or great but better than expected.

Ultimo lunch time tasting (Ultimo wine centre (but now vintage cellars)): Muted nose reveals better quality oak; cream, vanilla, spice, over concentrated but not overripe black currant fruit. In the mouth there are flavours of ripe black currants with chalky, but fine, tannin. It lacks a little acidity for me and finishes a little short. Feels quite worked. Hmm.

Bargain 2010 Bordeaux Region Wines (SF Wine Trading Company): Deeply colored. Some sulfur funk blew off to reveal black fruit. Rich, bitter chocolate, very oaky with prominent drying wood tannins. Modern, smooth, not a lot of complexity or lift.

Smoky nose. Medium body with dusty tannins and moderate acidity.
