Still big and rich after 13 years. Blackberry, blueberry, and dark cherry fruit. Has a meaty core of black licorice, dark chocolate, graphite, smoked meat, and mineral notes. Well balanced with good acidity, smooth tannins, and long finish. Great now but no rush.

Just drank my last bottle and - same notes/observations as my last review. Bad nose, way too much heat coming off the glass (despite being served close to cellar temp). Disappointing, won’t buy more.

This review will clearly be an outlier, but this wine disappointed - and I am a fan of this genre. Displays a medium/dark ruby red, definitely a couple of shades below the deep purple you might expect but still age appropriate. Initial nose was awful - cough syrup and “heat,” despite being served cellar temperature. I didn’t have a decanter so I just let it sit for an hour or so and it got better: nice notes of dark blackberry, cinnamon, blueberry jam. But the wine was still very one dimensional, with almost no tannin or secondary elements you might be expecting in a 10yr+ bottle. After about three hours (incl 45 min in glass), the wine became all heavy fruit. It just seems out of balance. I’ve had a very mixed experience with this producer, so this does not restore my faith. Not bad - but definitely not close to an elite wine either.

The wine as matured and is in an incredible place at this point. Tannins have fully resolved making this a pure, plush and remarkable Syrah cruising into a decade of age with ease.
