Under screwcap. Needed about an hour to loosen up. Colour in the glass was a clear pale to medium garnet. Aroma is fresh but dominated with earth, leather liquorice and cherry. Taste profile is also quite savoury with some dark fruits and soft tannins giving way to a tar, herbal menthol and sweet liquorice finish. Drinking beautifully!

Medium weight, deep red with hint of purple . No brick. Lovely dark berry and sweet leather/earth fragrance . Tar, licorice, blackcurrant , plum. Gentle but impressive. Silky style, more black than red fruits, richness of tar spice and licorice with the sweet leather finish. Classic Hunter but at the supremely stylish end of spectrum. Definitely mainly about fruit still, the secondary notes still just that, plenty of years ahead. Acidity is silky but there, as are the tannins. Like a Chambolle stylistically. Delicious .

Tim's 50th Dinner #2: Floral, herbal, cherry and smoke on the nose, a little rubber as well. Same profile on the palate, it's a little cleaner but still has herbs running through. Don't think I love this but others at the table were more positive.

SLDS October 2017: Floral, licorice, cherry, cranberry, earthy and some bretty notes coming through as well. Good fruit presence on the palate, with some sweetness that doesn't detract from the drive of the wine. The bretty elements come through on the palate as well though and it's a little bit concerning for the longer term potential of the wine if other bottles are the same.

10 year Tasting of 2005 Vintage (Bronte, Sydney): quite pale red, pinot-like. raspberry, wood smoke, hay and licorice. very fragrant. silky, refined, delicious red berries with licorice, graphite and tar. poised, delicate and intensely flavoured. has a hint of the hunter leather. gentle acidity and soft tannins. a really lovely wine.
