  • red berry, blackberry. Anise. Light lithe. Throws some weeds, too much? Black spice. dried thyme and sage. Atypical to the rest of the set. A little bitter tannin which evolves. At first wasn’t sure at first ‘I want to like it more’ was my note.

  • Medium ruby in the glass. Extremely light both on the nose and on the palate. Notes of violets, bright red berry fruit, herbs, some leather. Medium-bodied, bright acid, mellow alcohol. Medium depth and complexity on this. Even though it's young, it's quite approachable and open. Medium finish. Not the best value for money Shiraz out there, but interesting to try a different style from big and broad South Australian examples.

  • This is a profoundly herbal, light-touched syrah with a nose that shows some bloody notes (already?) as well as some tart red fruit. It has the lightness of something that may have seen some carbonic, but there's far more profundity here than your glou glou crap. The palate is elegant and lithe, with beautiful red fruit, florals, and brightness, along with generous acidity. The tart red berries are absolutely delicious here, and there's this big hit of bloody meat that reminds you of the grape we're talking about. There's no mistaking this for northern Rhone, but this is some serious syrah all the same.

  • Tyrrell's Private Bin Tasting (Hunter Valley): Herbal/undergrowth, floral and raspberry notes. Very good balance on the palate, I like the controlled structure and light fruit weight. More texture evident than last time. May just need time to settle.

  • Tyrrell's 2017 Red Release Tasting: Plenty of green herbs running through this along with light red cranberry and cherry. In a medium bodied style, feels seamlessly well balanced and in a really composed style, with the acidity perking things up nicely. Good length and depth. Not sure if I'm convinced at the moment with the herbs showing through to cover up other interesting notes right now, but hopefully time flips that around.
