  • Ten pounds of cocoa powder on the palate and mild spices abound. Too sweet & fruity for me, but minor notes of licorice with burnt anise makes for an interesting Cali Cab. Overall I'd say it's way over-priced... I've had many $50 Bordeaux that were many multiples better than this. Lesson learned: A big fat bottle and a big fat price tag does not equal a great wine!

  • Oh my, so this is what I've been waiting all these years for. Decanted from sediment about an hour before serving. Wow, what a wine! Deep purple color, with no sign of bricking whatsoever. Exuberant delightful nose packed with deep plum, cassis, baking spice, and graphite. On the palate the tannins are nearly fully resolved, resulting in an elegant, viscous feel with deep fruit notes, leading to an very long finish. Quite complex, I think this is drinking at it's peak now, but may hold for a bit? Drink 'em if you've got 'em, it is outstanding now.

  • Decant with four hours of air and this wine was singing in multiple voices no less. Tasted at decant and the fruit was so fresh and pure, a beautiful solo aria. At the four to six hour mark the entire choir joined in with multiple notes that we'd still be humming to long after the swallow. Don't make the mistake of not allowing enough time for it to breathe or you'll miss the memorable beauty of this wine. Easily the best $129 ever spent on a bottle. The drinking window is now, although given the amount of time we gave it to breathe, I don't think you'll miss the fireworks over the next several years. Cheers!

  • Enjoyed with grilled steaks for Memorial Day. Full bodied but with the Merus characteristic purity, it was a nice match for our dinner. The wine is in its prime drinking window but does not seem at risk of decline any time soon.

  • Double decanted for 2hrs, deep ruby with a lightening rim, black cherries, med. tannins, long finish; outstanding & probably at peak, ready to drink
