Decanted off moderate-high amount of fine sediment. Left ~4 ounces in the bottle as a result. Color is medium-brick red with medium transparency and some thinning at the rim. Initially aromas are of old books, then a transformation to eucalyptus/menthol/mint, and finally an hour+ later it shows more currant and smoked meat notes. Palate follows the nose through this time with an undercurrent of black truffle and sous bois. I expect this would unfurl a bit more with another hour or two in the decanter but this sample didn't make it that long. Delicious, fully resolved, and in a great place for my tastes. Drink or hold for further tertiary development. Acid structure suggests it will develop further.

Allowed to breathe in glass one hour. Clear dark youthful garnet color. Classic bouquet of blackberries, boysenberries, black cherries and their liqueurs; fennel, anise, cocoa, cardamom, hints of leather and tobacco. Similar on the palate, full body, excellent balance, seamless, ripe and generous, bit of alcoholic heat, lingering finish. Improved with several hours of air. Bottle number 1066 of 4930. Alcohol level is not stated.

Popped, breathed in bottle 90 minutes, enjoyed over next 90. This quickly reached a nice plateau and held it to the final sips. Beautiful bottle of mature Santa Cruz Mountain Cab. Dead ringer for Bordeaux. Strong resemblance to the 1995 Pichon Lalande next to it. 94+.

Great fruit laced with a piney herbal twist that pushes this beyond great. Regal, pure, classic SCM Cabernet.
