Served with a little chill on this hot day. At 10 years it remains very fresh. Dark red fruits, some earth, but the black pepper is the signature of this wine. For my taste, it is too much of a good thing when young but at this age just right.

I'm a fan of Pineau D'Aunis, though find that the black pepper can be overwhelming near release. This has calmed down enough that there is just the right amount to complement the dark plum fruit. It is a light "burgundy" in color and strikingly clear, with even a full pour quite transparent looking down into it. An interesting wine with a flavor profile that isn't subtle, even at this stage, but still somehow elegant. Very nice match with pork chops sauteed with onion.

My word this is really lovely. Maybe the best Pineau I've had. Elegant, balanced, a bit dusty in a very pleasing way. Tart red berries. Savory in a moreish way. Perfect spot right now, with room to last at this level another few years at least.

Still enormous amounts of black pepper. Matching it with cioppino was a reasonable success.

Very pineau d'aunis. A good time to drink it with the pepper calmed down a little but still savory.
